My idea is that the die hard Slytherin families of Black, lestrange, Malfoy and non-canon ones, (like the Kenkhills 
) would be the mafia gangs of the wizarding world. After being defeated by Potter & Co, and no serious Voldy replacement on the horizon these families fell back into being the middle class and the, 'business' part of their lives, (ie: loans with creul small print, and other organized crime activities).
It would help explain why they are so rich and the reduction of Hogwarts into a magical St.Trinians.
This opens up the extra rpg roles of not only the mafia families and thier business buddies and victims but also the Ministry officails being sent to Hogwarts undercover, (like British .C.I.D.) with all the little human dramas that come from it.
